From a fire safety and code compliance perspective, campuses experience many of the problems of large cities, but in a more confined space. From laboratories to high-occupancy assembly spaces, including theatres and stadia, to residential high-rises to commercial to historic buildings to rare collections and archives, most occupancy types can be found on a campus. Campus planning may include the adaptive reuse of existing structures, additions to structures, and design of new buildings, each with its own code requirements and challenges.
