Abstract: Modern buildings are complicated assemblies complicated assemblies composed of multiple layers of lightweight materials. Consequently, these buildings behave very differently than the solid load-bearing masonry buildings of the past.|Understanding the physical phenomena that govern contemporary building performance is an essential foundation for the creation of durable, reliable and efficient buildings. The study of these phenomena, namely heat, air, and moisture transport, has become known as building science.
