Dr. Mayville has been active in the field of materials and structural integrity for over thirty years. His interests and capabilities are in the fields of failure analysis, dynamics and vibration, finite-element analysis, materials, wear, and experimental mechanics. He works in such areas as transportation, chemical processing, defense, and energy structures. Dr. Mayville has substantial experience in metallurgy and materials and has a P.E. in metallurgical engineering. He also has experience giving depositions and has testified as part of a loss litigation case. He has participated in a number of patent litigation projects. Dr. Mayville has conducted both research and assessments of components and structures with respect to environmentally assisted cracking and corrosion over his career. He has substantial practical experience and has had responsibility for large design and fabrication projects. He is the head of the group at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. that does structural and engineering work in the nuclear industry. He has performed engineering projects on pressure vessels and piping for the nuclear and chemical industries. He was a participant on a review committee for DOE programs on coal-fueled diesel engines.
