Christopher Hewitt is a Senior Project Manager at Simpson Gumpertz and Heger in Chicago. He specializes in the design, construction, evaluation, and repair of technically complex structures. His experience includes the design and licensing of nuclear facilities, design of industrial buildings, crane runway design, seismic analysis, tornado and aircraft impact analysis, evaluation of equipment foundations, and electrical, piping, and mechanical system support and integration.
Hewitt is currently a member of the AISC Manuals Committee, which is charged with development of the AISC Steel Construction Manual and related design guides. He has extensive knowledge in the design of structural steel and has led the development of steel connection design methodologies for extended single-plate connections, seismic moment frame connections, and welded braced frame connections. As a former AISC staff member, Hewitt was the editor of the AISC 13th Edition Steel Construction Manual, Seismic Manual, and Detailing Manual, and established AISC’s sustainable design program.
