SGH recently hosted Engineering Day for the entire sixth grade (203 students) from the John Ahern Middle School in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Engineering Day was a result of SGH’s continued participation in the Lift2 Program (Leadership Initiatives for Teaching Technology). The Lift2 Program places teachers into paid externships in companies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields so they can experience firsthand what STEM careers might look like for their students. Through their job experiences and a companion project-based learning course, these teachers can help inspire their students to go into STEM careers.
Engineering day was a great success with the largest group to date yet. Students were able to partake in qualitative air-leakage testing on a mockup window wall, experiment with the IR camera, and use candles to test flame arrestors.
